Earlene K. Abel, 69, a resident of Long Branch, transitioned to her heavenly home on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, after a lengthy illness. She was an electrical engineer for Wheelock Signals, Inc. in Long Branch for 40 years before retiring. She was also a member of Second Baptist Church, Long Branch, where she served in numerous ministries. She was a member of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Guild, the African American Achievement Committee, Golden Link Chapter #24 O.E.S., P.H.A. Past Matron, treasurer, State Officer and a Monmouth Medical Center Community Liaison.

She was predeceased by her parents, Earl Abel and Theresa Hall-Abel-Byrd. She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Patricia Abel-Thomas; a sister, Melody Byrd-Alderman; a brother-in-law, Bradley Alderman; nephews, Niles and Tyson Abel; a host of cousins, devoted friends, and church family. Burial will follow at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls.
