Benjamin Barreau Jr.
A memorial service will be held March 19 for Benjamin "Ben" Barreau Jr. of Eugene, who died March 5 of age-related causes. He was 75.
He was born June 17, 1930, in New York City to Benjamin "Jean" and Mary "Anna May" Thienes Barreau. He married Margaret Kirschner on Oct. 16, 1952, in Springfield. She died in June 1990. He married Barbara Jones on Aug. 17, 1991, in Saginaw.
Barreau graduated from Springfield High School
in 1948. He attended Oregon State University for three years. He served in the military in Korea from 1951 to 1954 as a bridge engineer.
He worked for Medoland, Meadowgold, Dutch Girl Ice Cream and United Grocers. He enjoyed fishing, camping, playing poker and carpentry. He was a former member of the Eugene Elks Lodge.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Barry of Springfield; a daughter, Christine Kruse of Cottage Grove; two stepsons, Bruce Guertin of Seattle and Brian Guertin of Portland; a stepdaughter, Sharon Rettine of Chicago; a sister, Mary Egger of Springfield; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The March 19 service will be at 3 p.m. at the Unity of the Valley Church in Eugene. Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene is in charge of arrange- ments.
Memorial contributions may be made to Special Olympics or Cascade Health Solutions.
