Edmund Loreston Cook was the 2nd of the 7 children of Robert Cook and Ruth Kinnard. He was first married to Adelia Emma Wilberger, daughter of Dr. John Lewis Wilberger and Louisa A. Lester, on 18 Jan 1862 in Clinton County, Iowa. They were the parents of at least one child (I believe there were others, but I have been unable to locate them). His wife died on 24 Mar 1867 with their youngest child, Winnie, following on 12 Oct 1867. Edmund then married Ruby Adaline Chaffee, the widow of William Whittaker Sparks, on 16 Oct 1867 in Elwood, Clinton, Iowa. She had five children from her first marriage, and they went on to become the parents of four more children - Edmund Loreston Cook, Jr., Ruby Adline Cook, Alfred Loreston Cook, and DeLoyd Kinnard Cook. Ruby passed away on 1 Aug 1901 in Brookfield Twp., Clinton, Iowa. Edmund passed away less than 14 years later on 10 Feb 1915 in the same place.

Edmund L. Cook died Wednesday on his farm north of Elwood. He was an uncle of D. H. Shepard of Clinton, father of Banker A. L. Cook of Maquoketa and father-in-law of Banker W. S. Hill of Elwood. Mr. and Mrs. Shepard have gone to Elwood to attend the funeral whicyoh will be held at the M. E. church at Elwood at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon.
