Edward Douglas Abbott Sr., 66, of Stanardsville, Virginia, died at his residence on Tuesday, March 15, 2011.

He was born on October 15, 1944, in Madison County, Virginia, the son of the late McDaniel Thompson and Mary Myrtle Abbott.

He was a retired truck driver for a heating and air conditioning company and United States Army veteran of the Vietnam Era.

He is survived by his wife, Priscilla Abbott of Stanardsville; a daughter, Sandra Quarles and her husband, Bruce, of Orange; a son, Edward D. Abbott Jr. and his wife, Patricia, of Unionville; five grandchildren, LaMann Abbott, Brandon Quarles, Michael Quarles, Shamara Quarles and Ebony Nixon; four great-grandchildren; a brother, John Abbott and his wife, Jean, of Stanardsville; and three sisters, Maxine Scott of Charlottesville, Mary Caray of Maryland and Lydia Blakey and her husband, Philip, of Madison.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel of Orange. Interment will follow at the Culpeper National Cemetery with the Reverend Herbert Johnson officiating.
