Deane Edward Halverson, 72, of Washburn, passed away at St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth, Minn., on Monday, June 1, 2009, with his family by his side. He was born Dec. 14, 1936, in Washburn, the son of Robert Halverson and Elva (Brown) Anderson.

Deane attended schools in Washburn. He married Joan Martin on Oct. 23, 1954, in Washburn. She preceded him in death on Dec. 4, 1978.
Deane worked for Fromholtz moving company and the Coca-Cola Bottling Company, both of Ashland, for several years. He married Barbara (Nordin) Clark on May 14, 1983, in Bayfield. Deane co-owned and operated D & E Painting in Washburn for a few years.

Deane was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. He loved being outdoors, hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed being with people and animals, especially his dog and faithful companion, Ginger.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Halverson, of Washburn; four daughters, Carol (Jeff) Binkowski of Ashland, Darlene Halverson of Ashland, Lori (Edward) Hedican of Ashland and Vicky (Bill) Olson of Ashland; five sons, Deane (Linda) Halverson of Ashland, Steven (Rita) Halverson of Columbia, S.C., David (Gayle) Clark of Georgia, Mike (Heather) Clark of Eau Claire and Kevin (Renee) Clark of Edgerton; 22 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy (Darryl) Lindell of Crown Point, Ind.; a brother, Roy (Eleanor) Halverson of Marengo; a mother-in-law, Jacqueline Nordin of Washburn; and nieces and nephews.

Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Jean Johnston; and a father-in-law, Edward Nordin.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 5, at the Bratley Funeral Home in Washburn with Pastor Tom Wagner officiating. Inurnment will follow the service at the Woodland Cemetery in Washburn.
