The son of Jasper LeGrand Purple and Hester Wentz. He married May Louisa Davison. He died in a train incident - see attached newspaper clipping - which spared the life of his younger brother Robert, while Frederick was trying to catch a train to Apalachin to visit his wife who was carrying his unborn son, whom she named after him. They were only married for 2 years at the time of his death.

They had 2 sons : Jasper Davison Purple and Frederick Charles Purple (not to be confused with Charles Frederick Purple, also of Owego, who was a son of George Benton Purple and Julia Frances Hayes).

In 1899, May marries Eugene Manlove Rhodes and her two sons change their last name to Rhodes. May is buried in Riverside Cemetery and her gravestone says "May Davison, wife of Eugene Manlove Rhodes".
