The daughter of Lucius Davison and Mary Boyce. She was twice married : 1892, Frederick Charles Purple; 1899, Eugene Manlove Rhodes (the western writer). Although she spent some time with Eugene in New Mexico and California, she spent the majority of her life in Apalachin NY.

During her marriage to Frederick Charles Purple they had 2 sons : Jasper Davison Purple, and Fredrick Charles Purple.

During her marriage to Eugene Manlove Rhodes, they had 2 children : Alan Hinman Rhodes, and Barbara Antionette Rhodes.

After May's marriage to Eugene, her 2 sons changed their last name to Rhodes.

May wrote a book about Eugene, "The Hired Man on Horseback", 1938, Houghton Mufflin Co, Boston MA - The Riverside Press, Cambridge MA. I have a copy that was withdrawn from the San Antonio Public Library in Texas.

I also have a copy of the January 1954 issue of Reader's Digest wherein she wrote the article "The Most Unforgetable Character I've Met".
