Hiram Wilkinson enlisted as a Private in Company E of the Reorganized Fourth Michigan Infantry on October 14, 1864, for 3 years service, at age 18. He joined regiment at Huntsville, Alabama, on January 21, 1865, serving until he was discharged to date of June 14, 1865.

Aug 8, 1904--Hiram M. Wilkinson, aged 56 years, resident of Vernon, Shiawassee Co, MI; application for pension increase.

Jan 31, 1906--Hiram M. Wilkinson, aged 58 years, resident of Michigan Soldiers' Home; medical examination--soldier claimed he contracted rheumatism at Huntsville, AL in 1864, also claimed asthma.

Nov 23, 1912--Letter from George Barrett, notary public Vernon, MI with letterhead "George Barrett. Jeweler. Watches, Clocks, Silverware, Jewelry. Vernon, Michigan"; letter stated "This is to certify that this date Nov. 23, 1912, I have examined the family bible of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Wilkinson, of Vernon, Mich., now in their possession, and parents of Hiram M. Wilkinson, now of Grand Rapids, Mich., at the Soldiers' Home, at said place, and find from the family record in said bible, that the said Hiram M. Wilkinson was born November 20, 1847."

Aug 9, 1921--Hiram M. Wilkinson, aged 73 years, resident of Soldiers' Home, Kent Co, MI; stated that his son, Sylvester H. Wilkinson, served during the World War "commencing April 26, 1917", and that he was the only one of his family to serve in that war.
