"Martin J. Allhoff, 83, a native of Coloma who was largely responsible for an extensive development of communication by telegraph in El Dorado County in earlier days, passed away Wednesday night at Sacramento.

The funeral services will be held at the capital city on Saturday morning at ten o'clock at the Klumpp mortuary chapel, 803(?) O Street under auspices of the I.O.O.F. lodge.

Interment will be at 12 o'clock at Coloma cemetery, under auspices of the Druid lodge.

Mr. Allhoff was a retired telegraph operator. In his earlier life in El Dorado County he had been personally active and was in a large measure responsible for the establishment of a number of telegraph lines from Placerville to various points in the county which contributed materially to (spread?) of communication in those days when a horse and rig represented the next means of communication.

Employed later as a telegraph operator in Placerville, he was also a musician and took an active part in various dance orchestras. He moved to Sacramento about thirty-four years ago and continued his work for the telegraph company, retiring from active work more recently.

Deceased was the husband of the late Mary Alhoff (sic) and is survived by three step-sons, Michael L., Leonard J., and Mell J. Burke, all of Sacramento."
