Clare - Gertrude M. Davis, 92, of Clare, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at the Indian Hills Retirement Village in Chillicothe, MO.
Funeral services will be Monday, March 21st, at 9:45 a.m. in the Chapel of the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. at St. Matthews Church in Clare, with the Rev. Bruce Lawler officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Clare. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., where there will be a Legion of Mary Rosary at 4:30 p.m. and Vigil at 7:00 p.m. all at the funeral home.
Survivors include her daughters, Alice Wesley and her husband Jim of Kansas City, MO; and Maureen Erwin and her husband Craig of Chillicothe, MO; 5 grandchildren, and several great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Alice (Sweeney) Drushella; husband, Thomas Davis; brothers, Vincent, Richard, and Robert; and a sister, Rosemary Cunningham.
Gertrude E. Drushella was born on April 1, 1918 in Dakota City. She attended country schools. As a child she moved with her family to Clare. Gertrude graduated from St. Matthews High School in 1936. On October 9, 1943, she was united in marriage to Thomas Davis at St. Matthews Church in Clare by the Rev. J.P. McGuire. The couple made their home on a farm near Clare and later moved into Clare. The couple owned and operated Tom's Tavern in Barnum for a number of years. Gertrude later worked part time for Wal-Mart for over 18 years.
