Paul R. Babcock, 81, retired mail carrier at Markville, passed away at St. Mary's Hospital at Duluth on Saturday night, Feb. 26, after a long illness.

Mr. Babcock was born at Huntley, MN on July 25, 1890, the son of Amos and Esther Babcock. He moved to the Webster, Wisconsin area t the age of ten years and had been a resident of the Markville community since 1921. He was married to Signe Swanson on June 15, 1928, at Danforth. He was a veteran of World War I, serving in the U.S. Army. He served as rural mail carrier out of the Markville post office for 34 years and retired in 1960. He was a member of the Markville Presbyterian Church and of the Rural Mail Carriers Association of America.

He is survived by his wife, Signe; two daughters, Mrs. John C. (Elizabeth) Gall, Jr. of Ann Arbor, Michigan and Mrs. Roger F. (Cathryn) Good of St. Paul, and by two sons, David of Los Angeles, CA and Duane of Renton, Washington. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Wayne (Rose) Demarest of Centralia, Washington and by one brother, William of Lakeland, Florida and by ten grandchildren. One daughter died in infancy.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 3 at 2 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church at Markville with Rev. A. E. McLean and Rev. Richard Deuresen officiating. The music will be rendered by Morris Carlson, Arnold Swanson, David Babcock and Jeanette Babcock.

Casket bearers will be Jack Babcock, Kenneth Babcock, Melvin Babcock, Morris Carlson, Douglas Carlson and Trevor Kyle. Burial will be made in the Markville Cemetery.
