George E. Rush, 81, a resident of Elkhart since 1862, and well known as was his father, Jesse D. Rush, by the nickname "Deacon", died at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Elkhart General hospital.
The body is at the Charles Walley chapel, 126 South Second, where the funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, with burial in Grace Lawn cemetery. The services will be in charge of the Rev. Virgil Pierce Stewart of St. John's Episcopal church. The Elkhart lodge of Elks, of which the deceased was a member, will conduct a graveside ritual.
Mr. Rush, who for the last 2 years had lived at Hotel Bucklen, was stricken with pleurisy last Friday, and was taken to the hospital in the afternoon. His death came suddenly.
Prior to retirement in 1937 the deceased was foreman for many years of the foundry C. G. Conn, Ltd. He was an employee of that factory for 28 years. Previously he had worked at the Lake Shore & Michigan Southern foundry.
Born Aug, 15, 1861 in Kansas City, Mo., he was brought here the following year by his parents, Jesse and Sarah (Elliott) Rush. The father became well known as a wagon and carriage blacksmith.
The deceased in 1900 married Gertrude Showers, who died Aug. 30, 1931. Surviving are 2 sons, John G. of Chicago and Pvt. Thomas K. Rush, M. P. C., who is expected to arrive here today from Camp Claiborne, La; a grandson Graham Rush, seaman second class in training at Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, Harry Rush of Chinook, Mont.; a sister, Aimee M. Rush of 220 West High; a niece, First Lt. (Mrs.) Helen Schreiner of the army nursing corps, who arrived here from Ft, Thomas, Ky. Sunday, and 2 other nieces and a nephew who live at Chinook.
