ARNOLD RAY HUGGINS
Dec. 10, 1923 - March 6, 2011

Eagle Creek resident Arnold Ray Huggins died Sunday, March 6, at the Portland Veterans Administration Medical Center. He was 87.

A private funeral service was held Thursday, March 17, at Sandy Funeral Home. Burial was at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.

Arnold was born Dec. 10, 1923, in Eagle Creek to John and Georgia (Walker) Huggins. Arnold was raised and educated in Eagle Creek. In 1943, he joined the Army and served in World War II. After his discharge in 1946, Arnold returned to Oregon and began his career in the logging and trucking industry.

On July 26, 1958, he married Martha Jane Block. They resided in Gladstone prior to moving to Eagle Creek, where they raised their family. Martha preceded him in death in 2009.

Arnold worked for Park Lumber, which was later acquired by Crown-Zellerbach. He retired from James River Corporation.

Arnold enjoyed the outdoor activities of hunting, fishing, camping and four-wheeling. He was a member of Eagle Creek Presbyterian Church and the Sandy Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4273.

Survivors include his daughters, Molly Emery of Portland, Chloe Huggins of Eagle Creek, Carolyn McGahan of West Linn and Janet Wilson of Beaverton; stepdaughter, Melody Cazares of Vancouver, Wash.; sister, Ethel Wood of Medford; 10 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Sandy Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
