RANDLEMAN — James Allen Nelson, 81, of 3949 Lacy Dr., Randleman died Friday, March 18, 2011 at his home.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Pauline Lamb Nelson; brothers, George, Ned and Lee Nelson, and sisters, Pearl Walker and LuRay Jones.

Mr. Nelson is survived by a daughter, Martha Jane Nelson of Julian; a son, James Brian Nelson of Randleman; three grandchildren, Amy Nelson of Greensboro, Brian Nelson and C.J. Nelson, both of Randleman; a sister, Betty Jane Humble of Liberty; a brother, Billy Nelson of Mt. Holly; and beloved companion, Bailey.

James was born May 9, 1929 in Kernersville to Charles Eri and Martha Caroline Martin Nelson. He was a kind and devoted family man whose life exemplified gentle love and wise living. He was an expert tomato gardener and spent his happiest years raising children and grandchildren. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1956. He retired from Laughlin Hosiery Mill as Dye House Supervisor after 37 years. He was a member of Mt. Lebaon United Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends Sunday, March 20, 2011 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 600 South Main Street, Randleman. The funeral will be held Monday, March 21, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church, 119 W. River Drive, Randleman with Rev. Maxton Craven officiating. Burial will follow at Level Cross United Methodist Church Cemetery, Randleman.
