Lakefield Standard, June 14, 1945, Page 1, Column 3 Mrs. Julia Arre, 96, Succumbs Monday At Home Here Funeral Service Held Tuesday at Bethlehem Church By Rev. T. Hansen Mrs. Julia Arre passed away at her home in Lakefield on Monday, June 11 at 12:45 a.m., at the age of 96 years, 8 months, and 19 days. She had been bedridden since September 15, 1942, at which time she suffered a stroke, which left her helpless on her entire left side. Later on she improved somewhat and enjoyed visiting with her many friends who came to see her, but was still bedfast. Since February this year she had been failing rapidly. She was conscious up to within a few hours before her death, when she fell into a coma from which she did not rally. The end came very peacefully. Mrs. Julia Arre was born September 23, 1848. Parents were Ole and Caroline Kyle of Stjernero, near Stavanger, Norway, where she was baptized in early infancy, and at the age of 14 renewed her baptismal vow. In June 1869 she was united in marriage to Albert Arre in Norway, and a few years later immigrated to America, settling in Lee county, Illinois, where they resided for a number of years. Later they moved on a farm near Radcliffe, Iowa, and then to Radcliffe. In 1905 they moved to Lakefield, Minn. In August, 1924, Mr. Arre passed away, and since that time her granddaughter Helen, whom she reared from infancy after her mother's death, has been with her grandmother and cared for her during her long illness. In May, 1941, they moved to Windom, returning to Lakefield on October 2, 1944, and have resided here since. Grandma Arre leaves to mourn her departure one son, Ole Arre, and grandson, Arthur Arre of Moorhead; grandson Ed Arre of Eugene, Oregon; granddaughter, Mrs. Knute Holt of Camas Valley, Oregon; grandson, Martin Holt of Fairmont; grandson Adolph Holt of Turlock, Calif.; grandson Otto Holt of Alpha; and granddaughter, Helen Holt of Lakefield; 21 great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter. Her only daughter Helen (Mrs. Bertil Holt) preceded her in death, also two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Mrs. Arre has been a member of Bethlehem Lutheran church of Lakefield since moving here from Iowa, and also a member of the Ladies' Aid. Funeral services were hld from Helen Holt's home on Tuesday, June 12, at 1:30 o'clock, with a brief service conducted by the Rev. T. Hansen, who sang the hymn "Abide With Me, Fast Falls the Eventide," and read the brief verse I Samuel 7:12: "Hitherto hath the Lord helped us." The regular funeral services were held at the Bethlehem church, Pastor Hansen conducting the funeral services, Oscar Sathe funeral director. The test the pastor used in memory of Mrs. Arre was 2 Tim. 4:7-8: "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." Mr. O. S. Teig sang a beautiful hymn that Grandma Arre always loved, "Anywhere With Jesus." A girls' quartet sang "When Jesus Comes In Glory." Mr. Sathe sang the same beautiful hymn which he sang for Mrs. Arre's husband at his funeral 21 years ago, "Behold a Host Arrayed in White." Pallbearers were John I. Hodnefield, Jens Petersen, Andrew Knutson, L. O. Hodnefield, Carl Hodnefield and Isaac Erickson. Many friends and relatives attended the funeral to pay their last respects to the beloved Grandma Arre and sympathize with the relatives who mourn her departure. Many memorial gifts were given to missions and charities in memory of Mrs. Arre. She was laid to rest in the Lakefield cemetery where her body will rest until resurrection morning. Out of town relatives present were Mr. and Mrs. Martin Holt and daughters Hazel (Mrs. Gordon Ufer), Phyllis and Jane, the latter accompanied by her friend, Don Becker of Fairmont; Mr. and Mrs. Otto Holt and son David of Alpha; Mrs. Olena Holt, Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Holt and Mrs. Ernest Tasler, and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Johnson, all from Windom. Her only son, Ole Arre of Moorhead, was unable to be present because of ill health, but he had visited here recently.
