About 200 relatives, neighbors and other friends gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Hamel, on Thursday afternoon, July 21st, to honor this beloved, pioneering couple on their sixtieth wedding day and Mr. Hamel's eighty-eighth birthday.
A diamond jubilee is indeed a unique occasion, this being the first to be celebrated in the Davidson district. Everyone joined in making the day the success that it was, neighbors brought the necessities for the lunch, baseball and horseshoe pitching were played, while both young and old joined in the dancing. Mr. D. S. Hutchinson, M.L.A., addressed the gathering and Mr. and Mrs. Hamel, in his usual able manner, congratulating them on their 60 years of wedded life, and the esteem in which they are held in their community.
Mr. Lockwood presented them with a purse of gold, on behalf of those assembled and read the address, which was artistically drawn up by Miss Bessie Stevens, it is printed in the next column and so ably depicts the life of this couple, that it ill behoves us to elaborate. Mr. J. Hamel spoke in reply for his father and mother, thanking the neighbors for the presentation, the work they had done in preparing the reception and the capable manner in which it was carried out.
Mr. Hamel is 88 years old and Mrs. Hamel is 79, both enjoy good health and are quite active for their age. They were born at Green Island, Quebec. Mr. Hamel was an orphan at the age of nine and was cared for by a couple named, McClure, on the north coast of Labrador, until he was eighteen years old. He went to the United States in 1866 and he was married, in Minneapolis, in 1872, returned to Canada, with five boys, in 1906 and took up the homestead where they are now living. Mr. Hamel is a carpenter and worked on many of the buildings now standing in Davidson. The Leader joins with the community in congratulating Mr. and Mrs. Hamel.

To: Mr. and Mrs. Hamel-
On this, the occasion of your eighty-eighth birthday and the sixtieth anniversary of your wedding, we, your friends and neighbors are gathered here to-day, to extend to you our hearty congratulations.
You were among the early settlers in this district; your home has always been a centre of hospitality; at all times you have been ready with a helping hand.
You can both look back on a long and splendid life, every day being filled with good works. It wil be truly said of you, that having passed through this world, you leave it better for having lived in it.
We ask you to accept this small gift from us along with many a good wish for your future health, wealth and happiness.
