Commandant of Bay State Field Killed in Connecticut
EAST GRANBY, Conn. May 7 UPI -- Maj. Robert Anderstrom, 33 years old, commanding officer of Barnes Airport, Westfield, Mass., and of the 813th Replacement Training Squadron there, was killed today when his training plane crashed near old Newgate Prison.
The plane exploded and burned after crashing into a hill in a wooded section a few miles from Bradley Field, Windsor Locks, which serves both Springfield, Mass., and Hartford, Conn.
Major Anderstrom, an Air National Guard officer on full-time duty, was en route from Mitchel Field, L.I. to Westover Air Force Base, Chicopee, Mass.
He leaves his wife, Theresa, and three daughters.
