Mary Kathleen (McVay) Jelks, 91, Sand Springs, Oklahoma, passed from this life Saturday, March 19, 2011.

Mary was born September 26, 1919, to James McVay and Jessie (Singer) McVay, in Middletown, Ohio. Her sister Ruth was always close to her heart; they lived on the same block in Middletown for many years. Mary married Bill Jelks and they finally settled in Oklahoma, with daughters Kathy and Barbara. She gave the gift of time to St. Francis Hospital volunteering thousands upon thousands of hours while managing the hospital gift shop. No event was too small to host a gathering of family or friends. A childhood Bridge Party turned into a lifelong enjoyment of playing and hosting the game. For her family, hosting the Holiday dinner and planning the children's Easter Egg hunts; anything that would bring the people in her life together was always worth the work. Mary and her husband Bill were married for over 60 years, lived in several states; traveled extensively visiting all 48 contiguous United States and Europe. A Florida vacation became the family destination for five decades. Mary was beloved by all that knew her family, friends and caregivers. She will be greatly missed.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents James and Jessie McVay; husband J.W. Jelks, and sister Ruth Lawson.

She is survived by daughters Kathy Ward and her husband David of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, and Barbara Chicherio and her husband Don Fitz of St. Louis, Missouri; grandchildren David Ward, Jr. and wife Barbara of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Barbara Ward of Austin, Texas; countless other family from coast to coast.

Funeral services for Mary will be Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at 2:00 P.M. in the Mobley-Dodson Funeral Service Chapel. Rev. Dan Milford will officiate.
