Our most beloved mother, Ida Mae Cannon Smith, passed away March 20, 2011 in Salt Lake City.

She was born in Salt Lake to Collins Telle and Ida May Burton Cannon on November 28, 1916. She was a granddaughter of George Q. Cannon and Joseph Fielding Burton and she was proud of her pioneer heritage. She married A. Fenton Smith in the Salt Lake Temple on November 15, 1941. Mom and Dad were married for 53 years until his death on November 14, 1994.

Mother filled our lives with an appreciation for fine art and beautiful music. She travelled the world but loved the natural beauty of Utah best. She was devoted to her friends and family, including her many nieces and nephews. She retired from Kennecott Copper in 1978, but continued in her life's work of compassionate service for others. Mom was a docent at the Church History and Art Museum for twenty years and a volunteer at the Church Office Building until last summer when she retired at 93. She was so thankful for the Gospel of Jesus Christ in her life.

She will be greatly missed by her four children: Rosanne (Frank) Nieto, of Concord, CA, Douglas (VJ) Smith, of El Paso, TX, Georgia (Walter) Miller, of Alpine, and Laurie (DJ) Priano, of Holladay; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and sisters: Janet (Pete) Randall, of Logan, and Joan (Reid) Innes, of Buena Vista, CO.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth (Betsy) Kimball; her brother, Collins (Bud) Cannon; and great-granddaughter, Abigail.

A viewing will be held at the Eighteenth Ward, 135 "A" Street, Salt Lake City, Utah, on March 26, 2011 from 10:00 – 11:30 AM followed by her funeral service at Noon. Interment will be held at Salt Lake City Cemetery.
