Husband of Myrtle Irene (Courtois) Bauer.

Mrs. Myrtle Bauer, 1212 North Rogers, has received word from the War department that her husband, Pvt. Louie P. Bauer, 28, (above), a rifleman with the infantry, was killed in action in France November 8. Strangely, however, his serial number was not given, his name was signed beneath the general's name and the telegram was sent first to Springfield, Ohio. Mrs. Bauer has an aunt in the Ohio town who has checked and found that the identical address, 1212 North Rogers, exists there. Private Bauer went overseas in September and has been stationed in France. His wife received a letter from him written the day before his death is supposed to have occurred in which he told her that he was "moving closer" to the front, but not too close." The Red Cross has told Mrs. Bauer, she says, that she is justified in believing that an error has occurred. Relatives besides his wife are his father, Herman Bauer, Springfield; two children Louie John, *, and Margaret Ann, *; and three brothers, Clifford Bauer, Anderson, Ind., and Cpl. Glen Bauer of the U. S. Army in New Guinea. (Springfield Leader-Press, Springfield, MO, Wednesday Evening, Nov. 29, 1944, * the ages of his children have been privatized)
