US Congressman. Elected as a Democrat to represent Pennsylvania's 4th District in the Thirty-third Congress, he served from March 4, 1853 to March 3, 1855. The New Jersey native was raised in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, and settled in Philadelphia in 1840. Witte was engaged in the real estate business most of his life, and his single term in the US House was the only time he held public office.
