Delphie Mae Barksdale passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2011 in Batesville, Arkansas, at the age of 70 years. Delphie was the daughter of Leo & Ruby (Merriman) Abercrombie, born on October 16, 1940, in Holdenville, Oklahoma. She was brought up and attended schools in Lancaster, California. She was married to Jimmie C. Barksdale on September 28, 1955, in Hollis, Oklahoma. They made their home in Rockport, Texas for some ten years while Jimmie worked in the oilfields, then moved to Oklahoma, where he was employed as an electrician at Tinker Air Force Base. Delphie & Jimmie were the parents of one son, Rick. Jimmie retired in 1973, and for the next nineteen years, Delphie and Jimmie divided their time between Oklahoma and Texas, spending the gardening season in Holdenville and winter months in St. Charles Bay. They made Holdenville their permanent home in 1991. Delphie loved traveling with Jimmie and they often took trips to visit friends, to attend family reunions, or gospel and country music festivals. It was on one of those trips, enroute to a family reunion in Las Vegas, that Jimmie passed away in Gallup, New Mexico on July 19, 2004 at the age of 74. Delphie remained in Oklahoma with her son, Rick, until his passing on June 20, 2010, then moved to Batesville, Arkansas to spend time with family there. She enjoyed watching TV and visiting with friends. Delphie is preceded in death by her parents, Leo & Ruby Abercrombie; her beloved husband of 48 years, Jimmie Barksdale; her son, Rick, and an infant child; two sisters, Loujene Price and Shirley Reynolds; one brother, Norman Abercrombie. She is survived by two sisters, Vanda Jones and Mae Ree Hunter, both of Batesville, Arkansas, and one brother, Jerry Abercrombie of Holdenville; three sisters-in-law: Connie Barksdale of Rockport, Texas, Reba Reid and Lora Mae Barksdale, all of Holdenville; numerous nieces and nephews, and other relatives; many friends, including very dear friends Roger & Linda Evans and Elmer & Evelyn Haley, all of Holdenville. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 23, 2011, 2:00 p.m. at Fisher Funeral Home's Lillye Chapel, and Delphie will be laid to rest in the Holdenville Cemetery. Rev. Michael Barksdale is the officiating minister. Pallbearers are Mitchell Reynolds, Brad Reynolds, Brad Driver, James Ladd, Chuck Harmon and Marvin Ballard.
