WILLIAM L. NEAL, M.D., 91, of the Woodlands Retirement Community, Huntington, W.Va., passed away Saturday, June 11, 2005, in St. Mary's Medical Center. He was retired as a physician and director of the Cabell-Huntington Health Department. Dr. Neal was born June 21, 1913, in Huntington, W.Va., the son of the late Dr. William E. Neal and Susan Witten Neal. Funeral Liturgy will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2005, by Father Jim Sobus, Celebrant at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. He served in the Navy Medical Corps with the rank of Lt. Comdr. from 1942 to 1946. He was a graduate of the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Cabell County Medical Society, Norval Carter Medical Society, WV State Medical Association, American Public Health Association, Cabell-Wayne Historical Society, Cabell-Wayne Local Emergency Planning Committee, Our Lady of Fatima Mens Club, Mayfair Dance Club, Cotillion Dance Club, Kiwanis Club of Huntington, the Dutch Dinner Bridge Club and Friends of Cabell-County Public Library. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Ann Neal of Huntington; four sons, John Richard Berthold of Menlo Park, Calif., Jerry Lee Berthold and his wife Margaret of Ball Ground, Ga., William A. Neal, M.D., and his wife Martha of Morgantown, W.Va., and John E. Neal of Sydney, Australia; five daughters, Mrs. John (Susan) Meyers of San Mateo, Calif., Ms. Virginia Neal of Boulder, Colo., Mrs. Norbert (Mary Ellen) Ore of Dunwoody, Ga., Mrs. Gary (Christine) Harris of Fraser, Colo., and Mrs. Kevin (Ruth) Marshall of Phoenix, Ariz.; 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and four nieces and one nephew. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph G. Neal, Dr. Thomas W. Neal and Bernard Gale Neal. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church or a charity of one's choice
