Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 27, 2011, at Mueller Funeral Home & Crematory, W63 N527 Hanover Avenue, Cedarburg, at 1 p.m., for Irene Ruth Nitzke who died surrounded by her family on March 21, 2011, age of 83 years at Horizon Hospice located at Columbia St. Mary's Ozaukee Campus.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, from 11 a.m. until time of service. Interment Zur Ruhe Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Milwaukee Rescue Mission (where she donated her many crocheted hats and scarves)or Faith Lutheran Church, Cedarburg would be appreciated.

Irene was born in Cedarburg, Wisconsin on April 5, 1927, the daughter of the late Edward and Laura (nee Stern) Koepke. Irene was united in Holy Matrimony to Melvin Nitzke on October 1, 1949, in Cedarburg, WI. They were blessed with two children. Melvin preceded her in death on December 24, 1994. She was a founding member of Faith Lutheran Church. Irene loved singing and was a member of the Ozaukee Chorus for over 10 years. She loved cooking, baking, sewing, crocheting and gardening. Irene also enjoyed watching the many wild animals and birds in her backyard.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Charles Nitzke, daughter, Sharon (John) Schuldt, and grandsons, Brian (Pam) and Jason Nitzke. She is also survived by a brother, Edward Koepke, and a sister, Leona (Gilbert) Stanowsky.
