The end came at 1030 o'clock last night. Remains will be interred in Austin. Elks of this city escorted remains to the station, and an escort went to Austin with the body.
Hon. Joe-Lee Jameson, one of the best known of Texas' young men, died at 10:30 o'clock last night at his residence on Hazel Avenue, this city, after an illness of about two weeks, due to a combination of typhoid fever and pneumonia. Mr. Jameson took to his bed about 2 weeks ago after a trip to Austin, where he attended the annual convention of the Travelers' Protective Association of Texas. His illness took a serious turn last Tuesday and on Friday of last week the physicians pronounced him dangerously ill and expressed but little hope of his recovery. {edited for length}.
The entire state will be shocked and grieved to learn of the death of Joe-Lee Jameson. He was known from one end of the state to the other and wherever known, he was loved for his greatness of heart and his universal kindness. Mr. Jameson was 34 years of age, and was born in Texas, in the vicinity of Austin. He was married to the wife who survives him in 1891; two children blessed the union, a boy of 12 years old and a baby about 2 years old. Mr. Jameson was for a number of years secretary of the state democratic executive committee and has been prominent in state politics for a number of years.
He was a state revenue agent and insurance commissioner under the Sayers administration. He served the past year as president of the Texas division of Travelers' Protection Association and was district deputy exalted ruler of the state organization of Elks. {Edited for length} After making his home in Austin for many years, Mr. Jameson came to this city about one year ago and became indentified with the J. The body was placed on the Oriole and will be taken to Austin, where the funeral will occur tomorrow afternoon. There were no services in this city. An escort of the local Elks accompanied the remains to Austin, and will assist in the obsequies in that city as representatives of this lodge. Mr. Jameson was a member of the Austin Lodge. He was a former Deputy County Clerk in McLennan County, Texas, and directed a record company. He served as Secretary of the State Democratic Executive Committee. He married Clarissa Amaryllis Routh of Moody, Texas, on March 25, 1891. They had two children: Malcom Routh and Vida. He will be buried in Austin tomorrow.
