He was born in Brunswick County on September 20, 1922, a son of the late Lawrence and Evelyn Marlow Stanley. He served as Chief of Police of Ocean Isle Beach for fifteen years and was instrumental in the construction of the towns' canal system. Later he served as Town Commissioner of Ocean Isle Beach, a Real Estate Owner/Manager and was owner/operator of the Bricklanding Fish Camp. Mr. Stanley was a member of Jennies Branch Baptist Church and was most recently faithfully attending Old Zion Wesleyan Church.
Mr. Stanley was preceded in death by his first wife, Delma Stanley; his daughter, Charlene Bridgers; and grandson, Curtis Newman.
He is survived by his wife, Burnell M. Stanley; sons, James "Jimmy" Stanley and wife Tina of Shallotte Point and Bryan Gore and wife Laura of Tabor City; son-in-law, Bob Bridgers of Ocean Isle Beach; daughter, Cheryle G. Cribb and husband Donald of Clarendon; grandchildren, Robbie Bridgers, Adam Stanley, Shane Stanley, Shelli Gore, Sterling Gore, Julia Newman, Jodi Cribb, Chelsea Gore, Jillian Gore, Jessica Cribb, and Jordane Cribb; and great grandchildren, Cody, Halli, Lilli, Noel and Sophie.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Friday, April 29, at Old Zion Wesleyan Church, by The Rev. Billy Roy. Burial will be in Jennies Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.
