ALEXANDRIA, Ind. — Richard O. "Dick" Schuyler, 75 of Alexandria, died March 13, 2011, while wintering in Lake Wales, Fla., after a sudden illness.


Dick was born Jan. 19, 1936, in Elwood, the son of Owen and Hazel Schuyler. Dick attended grade school at Forest Hills and graduated from Summitville High School in 1951.


Dick was employed at Delco Remy, Anderson until 1958 when he left to serve in the United States Army for two years. After his military service he returned to Delco Remy, where he was responsible for the military manufacturing until his retirement in 1991.


Dick was an avid midget car racer, and from 1954 to 1992 he did everything from building cars to racing them. His best results were second in points in 1990 with the All-American Midget Series.


For several years he tended to the landscaping with the Browns at the Church of St. Mary's, where he was also a dedicated member.


He is survived by his wife, Roberta "Bobbie" (White) Schuyler, whom he married Aug. 5, 1955; three children, Nancy, Mike and Steve; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Joyce McKinley.


Dick was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Richard.


Private family services will be held at the convenience of the family.
