Richard D. Olmstead, 91, of 4217 St. Jerome Drive, Annandale, Va., formerly of 1473 Grafton Road, Millbury, died Friday in an Annandale nursing home. Mr. Olmstead was a pioneer in the corset manufacturing industry. He served as president of Worcester Royal Corset Co. from 1930 to 1937. He later worked for the Patten Co. manufacturers of survivial equipment in Worcester and in Lake Worth, Fla. He retired in 1967. His wife Marguerite (Murray) Olmstead, died in 1952. He leaves two sons, Gene M. Olmstead of Wadesboro, N.C. and Jasper L. Olmstead of Annandale, with whom he lived; a daughter Jane P. Olmstead of Millbury; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Mr. Olmstead was a 50 year member of the Hayden Lodge of Masons in Brookfield. He also received a 50 years award in 1975. He was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Worcester. He was born in Danbury, Conn., son of George and Henrietta Olmstead. He moved to Annandale two years ago. A private graveside service will be held today at Hope Cemetery. There are no calling hours. The family requests that flowers be omitted. Memorial contributions may be made instead to a charity of the donor's choice. Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St. is directing arrangements.
