Per the 1860 federal census, Abner had married and lived with his wife Audie and their daughters, Amida J (2) and Jane Delia (7 mos) in Louisville, St Lawrence, New York where he worked as a day laborer.
Per military records, Abner enlisted in the Union Army at Potsdam, New York on October 10, 1861. He was assigned as a Private to Company A of the 92nd Regiment on October 30, 1861. He served until his disability discharge on February 4, 1863 at Fort Wood, New York Harbor.
After his return, a son Fred was born about 1863 and another daughter, Lucy followed in about 1865.
A second son, Frank was born in Minnesota in about 1868. However, the 1870 federal census showed Abner living in Zumbreta, Goodhue, Minnesota without his family.
Three more children were added to the family, Lottie in 1874 and twins, Merton and Mary in 1975. They were all born in Iowa.
Returned to Minnesota, and Anna was born in 1877, then another son Rueben came along in 1879. By 1880, the family was together in Worthington, Nobles, Minnesota. Living with Abner and his wife were Fred (17), Lucy (15), Frank (12), Lottie (7), Merton and Mary (5), Anna (3) and Ruben (1). Abner worked as a carpenter.
The 1885 Minnesota State census reflected that Abner and Audere were still in Worthington and the children with them were Frank, Lottie, Mettie and Anna. There was also a 20 yr.old, New York born, Louise Clark in the home. Related?
Cemetery markers show that daughter, Anna died in 1904 in Riverside County, California. She is buried here, with her parents. A grandson, Elmer Allen, who died in 1908 is also buried next to Audere, Anna and Abner.
Audere died in 1908. The 1910 federal census showed that Abner, at 78 years was living in Highgrove, Riverside, California with his oldest daughter, Amida (52) and her husband, John Moir. John worked as an orchard laborer.
