Mrs. O.C. Gates died Monday, February 26, 1906, at the home of her daughters in South Salem Township, aged 81 yeas, 7 months and 26 days. Laura Koomis was born July 30, 1824 in East Hartford, Conn. She was married in 1843 to Orson C. Gates who died in 1885. To this union were born eight children, four of whom survive--Rev. L.S. Gates, Sholapur, India, Mrs. Ella G. Bell, Springfield, Mass., Mrs. E.H. Knight, Hartford, Conn., and Mrs. G.S. Spalding of South Salem. Brought up by Christian parents, at an early age united with the Hartfort Conn Congregational Church of which she remained faithful and consistent member until her death. Althrough confined to her bed during the past six years of her life her utmost endeavor was given to the work of the Master she loved so well. Almost her last concious words were: "I shall
