Obit for Houston County Courier - March 12, 2006 Mrs. Alta Mae Ferguson Lowe was born on June 1, 1924, to Julius and Ruth Ferguson in Crockett, TX and passed away on March 7, 2006, in Plano. Mrs. Lowe grew up on a farm outside Crockett and graduated valedictorian from Crockett High School.

Mrs. Lowe received a scholarship to and attended Mary Hardin Baylor University in Belton majoring in English. During World War II Mrs. Lowe worked as a clerk for the Army Air Corp in Hondo, Texas After the war she married Ray Cecil and lived in Huntsville. They soon separated and she returned to Crockett where she gave birth to their son, John Larry. After her divorce she worked as a bookkeeper for Bennie Ellis Insurance.

She later met and married Milton Lowe and they eventually moved to Ft. Worth where she worked for L. T. Barton Insurance for 35 years before retiring in 1988. During her life she loved to sing in church choirs and often served as a Sunday School/Bible Study teacher. She also loved writing, especially stories about the Bible and her family heritage, quilting, painting, knitting and embroidering, as well as other hobbies. Mrs. Lowe had a passion for reading, especially historical stories and Christian literature.

Survivors include her son John Larry Lowe and wife Inez, of Plano; grandson Jeffrey Michael Lowe, of Dallas; sister Margaret Gant, of Crescent, Okla. Preceded in death by her husband Milton; sister Ruby Petty; and brother James Ferguson.

Funeral services for Mrs. Alta Mae Ferguson Lowe wre held Saturday, March 11, at the First Baptist Church of Crockett. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the Alta Ferguson Lowe Scholarship fund at the First Baptist Church of Crockett where she had been member for many years
