Bernard L. "Bernie" Bunce, 59, of Battle Creek, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2005 at Borgess Medical Center.
He was born February 20, 1946 in Battle Creek to the son of Harold H. and Edna G. (Hiscock) Bunce. Bernie graduated from Pennifield High school in 1964.
He enlisted in the US Air Force in December 1966. He served for 4 years and was honorable discharged as a Sergeant.
Bernie joined the Kellogg Company in October 1970 and had worked there for 35 years. Because of his health, was placed on medical leave. He was very proud of his job as a crew leader and his active involvement in the American Federation of Grain Millers, Local 3G where he was exemplified by being a union steward representative.
Bernie enjoyed water recreation, fishing, hunting, and golf and he was especially fond of riding his Harley 1200cc and his Classic 1982 Low Rider (hog).
Bernie was a lifetime member of the Veterans of the Vietnam War, the Kellogg 25 Year Club, and the FOP Lodge 153 and a supporter of the National Narcotics Officers Association Coalition.
He is survived by son, Blake Bunce of Plainwell, brother, Martin L. Bunce of Battle Creek.
He was preceded by his parents.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service.
Funeral services will be held Friday, 12:00 p.m. at the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service with Rev. Father James Barrett officiating. Burial will be in Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorial tributes may be made to American Heart Association or American Cancer Society. Arrangements by the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service, a member by invitation Selected Independent Funeral Homes.
