Mary was born on January 19, 1924, in Center Point, Texas to Ralph Newton White and Irene Moore White. Her childhood was a happy one living in that small community. Following graduation from Center Point High, she moved to San Antonio where she attended business school and gave her services to the USO. It was there, at the start of World War II, that she met and fell in love with Elmer Lee Jennings, a young serviceman awaiting deployment to France. Upon his return from Europe in 1946 they were married and settled in Center Point. Two sons, Michael Lee and Patrick, and a daughter, Nancy were born into their union. Mary and her husband were active in the community, especially in the school and church. A founding member of the Center Point Band Booster Club, Mary was also a member of the Wesleyan Circle and the Women's Society of Christian Services of St Paul's Methodist Church, Beta Sigma Phi, the Community Chest, and served as captain of the March of Dimes. During her years working at the Kerrville State Hospital, she was on the Board of Directors, serving as both president, vice president, and secretary of the Texas Public Employees Association. An accomplished organist, Mary played the organ while her mother, Irene was the pianist for the Center Point Baptist Church.
The family became members of St Paul's Methodist Church after moving to Kerrville in 1960. Mary retired in 1986 and relocated to Austin, Texas. Mary and Elmer Lee were active in the church while living in the Lakeway community. Together, they enjoyed traveling, gardening, attending auctions, and spending time with their family and friends. Both died tragically in an auto accident on the morning of their 43rd wedding anniversary. Leaving behind to grieve were their children and spouses, Sarah Jennings, Sylvia Jennings, and Mark Price; grandchildren, Jennifer Jennings, Joanna Jennings, Jason Flores, Geoff Jennings, Brandon Jennings, Megan Taylor, Cory Jennings, and John Van Ostrand; sister, Ann, and husband, Jim Griffin. Also surviving; are Josephine Kincannon, Lucille Dickson, Garvice and Dru Jennings, Smith and Kathryn Jennings, Kenneth Greer, Eugene and Robin Jennings, Ray Jennings, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
