Lester retired from the Walcott Volunteer Fire Department in 1973 where he served as Fire Chief from 1947 to 1955. He loved hunting and fishing and was a member of the American, the Amateur, and the Iowa State Trapshooting Associations. He owned and operated the Walcott Gun Club.
He owned and operated Lund Implement, a John Deere Dealer, from 1947 until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his four sisters, Edna Green, Irma Evans, Esther Kuehl and Marcella Mangan.
His wives are buried on each side of him.
