James Augustus Kyle was born on November 18, 1892, in Missouri.
He married Katherine Marie Von Schoepf on July 3, 1915 and they had three children. On November 4, 1921 when the children were young their 31 year old mother Katherine died from leukemia in Fort Collins, Colorado.

were married by the Reverend Mr. Walter D. Cole at the Methodist parsonage in Boulder, Colorado on October 19, 1922. They had one son together:
William Calvert "Bill" Kyle 1928 –
He died in May 1968 in Nucla, Colorado, at the age of 75, and was buried there.
