Benjamin Lewis Chandlee was the youngest child of Benjamin L. Chandlee (1820 - 1853) and Rebecca Potts Whitacre. His parents were married September 23, 1841 at Rochester, Ohio. His siblings were: Aquilla G, RuthAnna, Phebe N, Ellen Jane, and Marietta. (RuthAnna and Ellen Jane died in early childhood) His father died May 27, 1853, five months before Benjamin Lewis was born.
His father was the son of Phebe Neill and Goldsmith Chandlee. His mother was the daughter of Ruth Anna Potts and Aquilla Whitacre.
