Abraham Study Leedy was born 3-2-1814 in Morrison's Cove, Bedford Co., PA, the 1st of 15 known children born to "Pioneers" Jacob (1791-1861)and Susannah (Study) Leedy (1797-1848). As an infant, he accompanied his father and mother as they made the trek through the forests of PA and OH with their young family from Bedford Co., PA to Knox Co., OH by Conestoga wagon in the Summer of 1814. Here Abraham was raised to maturity as a farmer, helping his father to clear the land of timber. Family tradition states that Abraham Study Leedy would haul wheat by wagon from Knox Co., to Sandusky, OH for his father. Abraham was German Baptist.

He married 9-15-1836 in Jefferson Twp., Richland Co., OH to Sarah "Sally" (Brallier) Leedy (1813-1877), the daughter of Samuel Brallier. They first started housekeeping in both Knox and Richland Co.s, OH. In 1846 his father purchased 80 acres of ground in Washington Twp., Kosciusko Co., IN for him and on 10-10-1847 Abraham Leedy and Sally Leedy moved from OH with the first 4 of their children to Washington Twp., Kosciusko Co., IN, to make a new home. Reportedly during the trip Sally Leedy walked behind the wagon driving the cows.

After moving to IN, Abraham Study Leedy was a farmer and also was employed hauling dry goods for the 1st log cabin store in Pierceton, IN from Ft. Wayne, IN. Family tradition indicates the Abraham spoke the old "PA Dutch".

Abraham and Sally were the parents of 6 children:

Ephraim Merrill Leedy (1843-1921)
Christian Brallier Leedy (1845-1915)
Samuel Brallier Leedy (1848-1917)
Jacob James Leedy (1853-1917)
