Elmer Henry Abplanalp was born Jan. 31, 1921, in Portland. He graduated from Franklin High School. During World War II, he served in the Navy Submarine Service in the Pacific. After the war, he lived in San Francisco before returning in 1948 to Portland, where he worked for the city for 30 years, retiring as manager of the sewage treatment plant. In 1945, he married Margaret Dickson; she died in 2002.
Survivors include his daughter, Heidi Munson; son, Scot; and five grandchildren.
