HAMILL, LAWRENCE JOSEPH, 93, of Hagerstown, Md., died on Monday, July 9,2001, at his home.

He was born on Jan. 27,1908, in Washington, D.C., and was a son of the late William F. and Mattie Dietz Hamill.

Mr. Hamill was a barber for 75 years until retirement.

He attended Christ Beth El and was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific. He was a member of the VFW Post 1936, Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion, North American Rod and Gun Club and the USS Rocky Mount GC3 Alumni Association.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Doris Ethel Hamill, are two daughters, Gloria L. Smeltzer of Hagerstown, Md., and Julie A. Beard Foster of Bridgewater; three sons, Lawrence J. Hamill Jr. of Bunker Hill, W. Va., David M. Beard of Sharpsburg, Md., and Paul E. Beard of Hagerstown, Md.; two sisters, Virginia Smith of Hagerstown, Md., and Isabell Wagoner of South Carolina; 20 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lillian V. Hamill; a daughter, Jacqueline Williamson; and two brothers, Linwood and George Hamill.

A funeral service was conducted on Friday, July 13, at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home Chapel in Hagerstown, Md., by the Rev. William J. McPherson.

Burial with full military rites conducted by the Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion, was held at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Leitersburg, Md.
