George W. Knox, 87, of Rock Falls, died Friday, March 25, 2011, at his home. He served proudly in the U.S. Army in World War II, under the direction of Gen. George A. Patton.
George was born Nov. 23, 1923, in Rock Falls, the son of Ralph and Gertrude (Yarde) Knox. He married Norma Sears on Dec. 13, 1946, in Huntsville, Mo. She died on Sept. 9, 2008.
George was a member of First Christian Church, Rock Falls. He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 35 years, retiring in 1989. Survivors include one daughter, Barbara (Tim) Sheley of Sterling; one son, Greg (Barb) Knox of Montana; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by one daughter, Karen Bright.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at McDonald Funeral Home, Rock Falls. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. today at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
