BEMIS
Henry James Bemis, son of DeLos Lafayette Marcus Bemis, was born April 15, 1880, at Estherville, Ia., and died at his home at Minneapolis, Minn., Oct. 4, 1961, at the age of 81 years, 5 months and 19 days.
His parents, brothers and sisters all preceded him in death.
Mr. Bemis was an expert sheet metal worker and worked at the trade for many years before his retirement 15 years ago.
He was united in marriage to Maude Badger Sept. 17, 1908, and resided in Chariton for two years before making their permanent residence in Minneapolis. They have returned to Chariton numerous times, visiting their relatives and friends.
Mr. Bemis is survived by his wife, Maude, son Kenneth, two daughters, Mrs. Sanford Durocher and Mrs. Glen Rasmussen, all of Minneapolis; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mr. Bemis will long be remembered by a host of friends for his wonderful smile and friendly hand shake. He never knew a person as a stranger.
Mr. Bemis loved to walk and in his walks he met his friends of recent and early acquaintance with a cheery word and a friendly smile. A man loved by children and grown-ups alike, he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, 1961, at the Beardsley Funeral Home. The Rev. Lester Hall officiated. Interment was in the Chariton cemetery.
