Goodwin was born the son of Ole & Annie Bjorback Ford. He grew up and attended school in Slayton. Goodwin entered the U.S. Navy in February of 1944 and served most of his time in the Salomon Islands repairing submarines. He returned to Slayton after his honorable discharge March 20, 1946. On May 17, 1947 he and Teresa Ebbers were married at St. Columba Church in Iona, MN. Following their marriage they lived in Iona where he worked doing construction until age 62, when he then retired. He remained in Iona until July 2006 when he entered the Hendricks Nursing Home in Hendricks, MN. He was a member of St. Columba Church in Iona. He served as a Volunteer Fireman in Iona. Goodwin enjoyed hunting, gardening and sharing his produce with friends and neighbors and was always willing to till a garden. Goodwin was an avid fisherman his entire life. He was instrumental in saving and the restoration of Lake Corabelle, south of Iona.
Goodwin & Teresa were the parents of Paulette Ford, Peggy (Orin) Swart, Patty Koens, Pamela Ford, Peter Ford, Penny (Bruce) Platt, Priscilla (Jeff) Olson, Perry Ford, Patrice (Marc) Widmark, and Portia (David) Blees.
Goodwin's siblings include Archie Ford, Lloyd, Alden, Oswald, Raymond, Robert and Charles Ford.
Funeral services were held at St. Columba Church in Iona, MN, Fr. James Seitz officiating.
