Henry was the son of Heinrich Valentin and Anna Margarth (Stocker) Steinberg. He was born in Bebra, Hessen, Germany.

In the fall of 1886, at age 13, Henry left Germany for America where he worked for his uncle Adam Steinberg on a farm in Livingston County, Illinois. In 1893 he bought a quarter section of land in Martin County, Minnesota.

Henry and Nancy Katherine Knauer were married March 7, 1894 in Cropsey, McLean, Illinois.

In 1896 Henry rented a farm in Livingston County, Illinois where the family lived for 4 years. Two daughters were born to the couple, Margaretha Elizabeth in 1896 and Augusta Amelia in 1898.

In the spring of 1900 they moved to Calhoun County, Iowa where Henry purchased 240 acreas of land. There he farmed, raised Duroc Jersey hogs and Aberdeen and Angus cattle.

After coming to Iowa, Henry and Nancy had 6 children: Frank, Henry Frank, Carl Henry, Martin Wilhelm, Earl Joseph and Ethel Mae.

Their son Frank died as an infant and is buried in the yard of the Center School House. It is a tiny cemetery and the graves cannot be found today.

Son, Henry Frank was born in 1902 and died in June 1982.
