The Passing of an Old Resident of the County
Dan L. Wiley, one of the oldest citizens of the county, living down at Union in the presence of away at his home Saturday, March 5th, at 10:30 p.m., aged nearly 80 years. The immediate cause of death was kidney trouble. Surviving him are his wife and ten children, twenty-five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
His remains were laid to rest with appropriate veremonies Sunday afternoon in the family burying ground at old Rancho in the presence of mumerous relatives and old friends by whom he was held in the highest esteem. Rev. Hugh Revely, pastor of the Methodist church, conducted the funeral services.
Mr. Wiley was born in Louiseana, May 16th, 1841, and came to Texas in 1860, settling in this county. When the Civil War broke out he answered the call of the Southland, fighting under the Confederate flag. His wife was formerly Miss Pauline Cone. To the couple were born thirteen children, three of whom preceded their father in death.
Mr. Wiley was a professing Christian and had been a member of the Methodist church for many years. Years ago he resided here in town and will be remembered by many of our older residents.
in Mr. Wiley's death the county loses another of its old-time citizens. The many friends of the familyliving in this section will unite with us in tendering sympathy to the wife and other loved ones. In attendance at the funeral from here were N. D. Cone and C. E. Ince.
