Marcus L. Claighborne, formerly Chad Pack, 35, of Salem, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2011. He leaves behind his two daughters, Iliana and Raevien, whom he adored. Chad was born on December 18, 1975, in American Fork, Utah, to Kenneth E. Pack and Lela Brown. His family will miss his quick wit, his endless affection, his vast store of knowledge, and his contagious smile. He spent two years in France serving a mission for his church. Chad loved learning and reading, and his mother will miss their intellectual conversations and being called Mumsy. We will all miss hearing him speak French. In addition to his daughters, he is survived by his parents, Kenneth E. (Marilyn) Pack, of Utah, Lela (Steven) Brown, of Salem; his sisters, Jennie (Tom) DuCourant and Brandy (Mark) Collins; maternal grandmother, Jean Butler; and paternal grandmother, Barbara Pack, both of Utah. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Ralph W. Butler; and paternal grandfather, Ervin E. Pack. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2011, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 6311 Wayburn Drive, Salem. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, March 30, 2011, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Lotz Funeral Home, Salem, Va., 540-389-9208.
