In 1882, Burrell Pirkens (sic), was a farmer in P.O. Winchester, who was born in 1813 in TN, and had a neat farm of seventy-two acres, and was considered to be an enterprising citizen, according to his bio in the 1882 book "The History of Randolph County". Also, according to historian, E. Tucker, Burrell's father, Stephen Pirkens, was a native of VA; his mother was born in TN. Mr. Pirkens lived with a John C. Carmichael until about eighteen years of age, when he became weary of the hardships that were daily imposed on him and concluded to leave his employer and seek his fortune elsewhere. For several years, Mr. Perkins was engaged in various avocations in Tennessee and along the river of the same name. Mr. Pirkens had been married three times by 1882. He married his first wife, Mary Reeves, in 1837 near Chattanooga, Hamilton, TN. Mary was native of South Carolina who had previously been married and already had one child, William Cebolt. Mary bore him seven children., viz Harrison, John, Pricilla, Stephen, Levi, Joel and Daniel. After Mary's death, he married his second wife, Judith Felton on 9 Feb 1860. Judith was born in North Carolina. Mr. Pirkens married his third, Mahala Scott (1840-1895), on 25 May 1865 in Randolph, IN. Mahala was born in IN ansd was the daughter of Martin Scott and Ann Eliza Bundy. Mahala was the mother of three children -- Delmetta, Oda and Julian. Mr. Pirkens is a minister of the American Methodist Episcopal Church, and is an ardent worker in and supporter of the cause of Christ.

NOTE: Mr. Perkins was married a fourth and final time to Elizabeth Bass (1823-1901), on 27 Jul 1897 in Randolph, IN. Elizabeth was born in IN and was the daughter of William Bass and Deborah Oakey. Elizabeth had previously been married to Henry Holland and Robert Goings. Elizabeth died 10 Jul 1901 in Randolph, IN.
