Son of George and Mary Bethard[s], who were living in Catahoula Parish in 1870. His father George served in the Confederate Navy. After the war, George ran the resort at White Sulphur Springs. He is buried in the Whatley/LaCroix Cemetery on Hwy. 8. Samuel's mother Mary moved to West Monroe, LA after her husband's death, and she is buried in Hasley Cemetery in West Monroe.
