Raymond Henry Holtz, 80, Abbotsford, died at 3:55 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, 1995, at St. Joseph's Hospital Hospice Care in Marshfield. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, 1995, at Christ Lutheran Church, Abbotsford, with the Rev. Daniel Ahrens officiating. Burial will be in Abbotsford Public Cemetery. visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, 1995, at the Maurina Funeral Home, Abbotsford. Ray Holtz was born on Jan. 11, 1915, the son of Herman and Ida (Ruesch) Holtz, in Medford. A 1933 graduate of Dorchester High School, he was the class salutatorian. As a young man, he was employed by Erickson Hardware in Dorchester. In 1941, Ray enlisted in the US. Army Air Corps and served his country in the European Theatre in England. He received an honorable discharge in October 1945. On July 24, 1945, he and the former Evelyn Thompson were united in marriage at St. John's Lutheran Church, Madison. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year. In 1948, Evelyn and Ray moved to Abbotsford, where he and his father operated the Holtz Feed Store. Ray became sole owner of the feed store in the early 1950s. In 1991, Ray's son-in-law purchased the business. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Mid-Wisconsin Bank in Colby for 25 years and also was a school board member of the early Dor-Abby High School, now the Abbotsford High School. He was a longtime member of the Christ Lutheran Church and served as secretary of the church council. He especially enjoyed his flower garden and was a diehard Packer fan. He also was a woodworker and an avid reader. Survivors include his loving wife, Evelyn of Abbotsford; three daughters, a twin, Nancy Holtz of Janesville, Linda (Rudy) Mannetter of Abbotsford and Sharon (Don) Johnson of Racine; one brother, Harold (June) Holtz of Las Vegas, Nev.; and two grandchildren, Adam and Kimberly Mannetter. He was predeceased by his parents, twin daughter, Diane, in infancy, and one sister, Erma Vircks. Pallbearers will be Harvey Fierke, Eugene Blair, Norman Lukas, Boots Bacon, Art Schultz and Gary Sipiorski.
