Harold D. Oliver came to billings in 1936 and worked as a boiler maker mechanic and on the construction of the Carter Refinery and Continental Refinery. He then traveled and worked on various projects, including a dam at Cabinet Gorge, Idaho, until retiring in 1972.
He was a devoted husband and father, and enjoyed gardening, bird watching, dancing and bowling. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and Boilermakers union.
Mr. Oliver, 78, of 820 Eighth Street W., died Saturday afternoon in Billings Deaconess Hospital.
He was born in Denver, Colo., a son of Andrew and Lou Myrtle Oliver, and lived on ranches in Colorado before moving to Rawlins, Wyo., with his parents when he was 15. Later he lived in California and Wyoming before moving to Billings. He married Barbara M. Nielsen on Aug. 30 1938, in Red Lodge.
Survivors include his wife; a sister, Ethel Coine of Verdi, Nev.; five grandchildren; and three Great-grandchildren. A son, David, and a daughter, Barbara, preceded him in death.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary with burial in Mountainview Cemetery.
