Son of Orlando W. and Jennie (Nottingham) Whitelock; born June 10, 1896 in Huntington, Indiana.

Attending Elon College in North Carolina when he enlisted in the Ambulance Corps, Red Cross Company 18, on August 4, 1917 at Indianapolis, Indiana. Sent to Camp Grant, Illinois; assigned to 3rd Ambuland Company, 311th Sanitary Train. Died October 4, 1917 at Base Hospital, Camp Grant, Illinois following operation for appendicitis. Buried in Mount Hope Cemetery, Huntington, Indiana. Died at age 21 years, 3 months, 24 days.
